The Best Budget Airsoft Upgrades

So, you want to improve your AEG without spending too much money? Well I am here to help! (FYI I am referring to clones mostly)

To start, try using better/heavier BB's. If your gun is shooting 350 FPS with .20g BB's, try some .25g BB's. They will give you much better range and accuracy, and hit harder because they have more kinetic energy. KSC, Airsoft Elite, and TSD BB's have worked great for me.

Next, a new hop-up bucking. Systema, Prometheus, and Guarder (improved) are all good budget options. A new bucking will greatly improve accuracy and sometimes FPS.

To go with the new bucking, I suggest an Element H nub as well. It puts more even pressure on the BB so the hop-up is more consistent.

Next, another accuracy upgrade! A tightbore barrel. The tighter bore the barrel is, the less a BB can wiggle around and be off target. Think about it in the big picture, will a 6mm BB be more accurate out of a 6.01mm barrel or a 1 inch wide PVC pipe? Yea, go for the tightbore! Most stock AEG barrels are 6.08mm, and most good cheap tightbores are 6.03mm. Madbull Python are recommended most by me, but if you want better, spend the extra dough and get a DB Customs 6.01mm tightbore. If you notice the tightbore not working right at first, reserve your dissapointment until you put 1K BB's through the barrel. Brass barrel require break-in, and all budget tightbores are brass. A tightbore will improve accuracy, range, groupings, and FPS a bit.

Now, for rate of fire and battery life... well... Get a better battery! An Intellect or Elite 9.6v battery will make your gun spit out about 5 more BB's a second than with the crummy 8.4v Chinese battery you use! And you may think you'll be breaking your gearbox, but you will be surprised what it will handle.

Wait... Mr. Danny, why haven't you listed any inside-the-gearbox upgrades?

Well children, all the things I listed above are much more effective in improving your AEG than slapping a M130 spring in. More FPS does NOT mean more accuracy or range. Plus, gearboxes can be very troublesome...

But if you want durability... well then you must go into the gearbox! I will make this part short and sweet - get the following for a nice, cheap durability upgrade:

Piston (G&P White or Guarder Polycarbonate, for god sakes DO NOT get an aluminum piston!)
Piston head (G&P "explosive" and guarder are good for this too. Again, not aluminum!)
Replacement O-Ring for piston head (Size #14, very cheap at hardware stores. Will give better compression)
Metal spring guide (Guarder ball bearing is good)
Metal bushings if your gun doesn't already come with them
A spring that will make your gun shoot ~350 FPS (M110 or PDI 150%)
Re-shim
Re-grease

Tightbore Barrel Guide (for AEG's)

Tightbore Barrel Guide

So, you want to install a tightbore barrel on your electric airsoft gun. Great! But you're gonna need to know some information first, so read up!

LENGTH

590mm = PSG1

534mm = SIG550

509mm = M16 series and AUG

472mm = FAMAS

469mm = G3 series

455mm = AK47/47s

369mm = HK51

363mm = M4, SR16, XM177, SIG551

300mm = Thompson

285mm = MC51

247mm = CAR15, P90, SIG552, G36C, AK Beta

245mm = UZI

229mm = MP5 series

141mm = MP5K PDW

110mm = MP5K

Now that you know what length you what, you need to know what brand to get. Here's a quick run-through of the quality of some brands.

DB Customs - The best tightbore barrel you can get for the money. They are 6.01mm - the smallest diameter available mainstream. Good quality, but made of brass so it requires a ~1,000 BB "break-in" period. Regardless, the best for the money.

KM - Great quality tightbores. They are 6.04mm - not the best performance, but great quality.

Prometheus - Excellent tightbores. They are 6.03mm - good performance, excellent quality. Made of steel, so no break in period.

Madbull - The first version of Madbull's tightbores were, simply, fail. BUT, the black python tightbores are the good, new version. The black python are of good quality and are 6.03mm

PDI - Decent tightbores. They are 6.05mm - great quality, but not as good performance as a smaller bore. PDI's also makes 6.01's which are suburb.

Systema - Great tightbores. They are 6.04mm - great quality, good performance.

Deep Fire - Good tightbores. They are 6.02mm - good quality, gnoce performance and 6.04mm - good quality, average perfomance.
TK - Hard to find, special tightbores. They are made for stock TM AEG's (280 fps) and won't work with any AEG above 300 fps. They make the BB spin while giving it hop-up, giving even more range and accuracy. I am unsure of the bore of the barrel, but I do know it is a tightbore.

After you know that informantion, you should make your purchase, install it, break it in if it's needed, and skirmish!
OOh, and just to let you know, most AEG;s come with 6.08mm brass barrels.

Upgrading Your AEG

Everybody knows that an upgraded electric airsoft gun performs better than a stock electric airsoft gun. Upgrading your AEG can be a difficult process if you are not experienced.

First of all, only metal gear box AEG's should be upgraded. Second of all, the following links are to online airsoft sites that will upgrade your AEG for you. I recommend using one of these links if you are not mechanically inclined to be taking apart and reassembling your AEG...

AirsoftGI is your best option.

If you ARE mechanically inclined to upgrade your AEG, then good for you! Be sure to use upgrade parts that fit your AEG. If your AEG is a version 2 metal gearbox, then you need a version 2 metal spring guide, etc.

If you are upgrading your AEG to 330 FPS then you will need a new spring guide, new bushings, a good job of shimming (for China made), and a new spring (duh). The following are good choices...

Re-Shimming for China made
Bushings - ECHO 1 steel bushings
Spring Guide - Area 1000 metal spring guide
Spring - Guarder SP100

If you are upgrading your AEG to 350 FPS then you will need basically the same parts you need for 330 FPS, just a better spring and a good battery.

Re-Shimming for China made
Battery - a 8.4v that is above 1300 MaH that fits your gun
Bushings - ECHO 1 steel bushings
Spring Guide - Area 1000 metal spring guide
Spring - Systema M100

If you are upgrading your AEG to 380 FPS, then you will need a better quality spring guide, bushings, and spring than a 350 FPS upgrade. A 9.6v battery would do wonders, as well. If you want really high RoF, you could get a new motor, but it's not needed.

Re-Shimming for China made
Battery - A 9.6v that is or is above 1100 MaH that fits your gun
Bushings - Guarder steel bushings
Spring Guide - Systema metal spring guide
Spring - Guarder SP110

If you are upgrading your AEG to 410 FPS, then you will need a new piston, new piston head, a reinforced gear set, a better spring, and the same spring guide and bushings as a 380 FPS upgrade. A 9.6v battery would help a lot, as well. If you want to, you could also get a new motor, but that is not needed unless you want high RoF.

Re-Shimming for China made
Battery - A 9.6v that is or is above 1200 MaH that fits your gun
Piston - Systema poylcarbonate piston
Piston Head - Systema duracon piston head with bearings
Gears - Prometheus standard ratio reinforced steel gear set

I do not recommend upgrading to anything higher than 410 FPS.

Hop-Up Bucking and Tighbore Barrels are completely optional, but they greatly increase accuracy and range, they also increase FPS a little. They are HIGHLY recommended for ANY metal gear box AEG.

Why You Need Fully Automatic and High Cap/Lots of Mid Cap Magazines

When in battle, AEG's are superior. They can fire fully automatic and are very powerful. You should use a fully automatic airsoft gun as your primary with (a) high capacity magazine(s) or a bunch of Mid Caps for the following reasons...

1. Five bb's are more likely to hit a target then one.

2. You don't have to constantly reload with high-cap magazines/You can just swich out Mid Caps

3. If somebody is charging you, would you rather shoot them once or fifteen times?

4. Reloading makes you vounerable

5. When under heavy fire, you don't have time to aim that well (spray and pray)

6. You can hit people in a group all at once with a spray of full auto

7. All the cool kids are doing it

8. Because I told you so

Also, I suggest using a burst of full auto when shooting at an enemy. Anything from three to eight works very well.

I hope I can help every airsofter out there with this post that took me a very long time to write. Read up, enjoy!

Eye Protection

This is the most important part of airsoft. Use only properly rated, full seal goggles or a paitball mask. I suggest these: cheap, and will withstand 500+ FPS POINT BLANK - www.goggleoverstock.com

Vests/Chest Rigs/Pouches

If you are on a budget but against vests or chest rigs for some reason, but you still want to be able to carry a lot of stuff, then I suggest the following setup: Belt, dump pouch (belt mounted), 3x magazine pouch (belt mounted), Drop-leg panel, another 3x magazine pouch (MOLLE, put on drop-leg panel), Small utility pouch (belt mounted, on backside)

If you have about $50 to spend, but do not want a chest rig or vest, get a full ALICE Rig. Get the pouches that suit your needs.

...and purchase all the pouches you need and mount them where you need. Rifle magazine pouches, pistol magazine pouches, dump pouch, and whatever else you need.

1. A BDU set in the proper camo that suits your needs
2. Comfortable boots
3. Holster
4. Sling for any non-pistols you own
5. Helmet
6. Good Belt
7. Face protection (if not using a PB mask), such as a neoprene half mask. Or at least a mouthguard.
8. A comfortable t shirt
9. Gloves (not winter gloves of course!)
10. Gun bag/case to store your airsoft guns while transporting (or, use a garbage bag or pillowcase)

Airsoft Games and Scenarios

Team Battle - The most commonly played airsoft game. Played with even teams (2 teams usually, but 3 works as well), team battle is always fun. The rules are simple, when you get shot, you're out. Last team standing wins.

Capture the Flag - The second most commonly played airsoft game. Played with 2 even teams. There can be one or two flags. If one flag, it is placed in the middle of the field. If two flags, one is placed on or near each team's "base." Capture the flag is easy to play, just get the middle flag/the flag on the opposing team's side, and you win. If you get hit, you or either out, you lose a life, or you go to a spawn point and wait to respawn.

Grimm Reaper - Played like Team Battle, but with a twist. Each team gets one medic and one person is the "Grimm Reaper." The Grimm Reaper is armed with only a cheap springer or a weak electric and on nobody's team but is quite powerful. If the Grimm Reaper shoots you, you are out and cannot be revived by a medic. If you are shot and waiting for a medic and the Grimm Reaper touches you, you are out and cannot be revived. The Grimm Reaper cannot shoot the medics, but if he/she does, he/she is out.

Retrieve - Played with two even teams. One team is the "terrorists" and the other is the "americans." The terrorists are given two sealed envelopes before the start of the game, to be placed in the pocket of two seperate terrorists. Inside of one envelope says "guilty," (americans win) inside the other says "innocent" (americans must find other envelope). If a terrorist gets shot, he walks to an american, to be "searched." If he has an envelope, he hands it to the american, who opens it. Regardless of if the terrorist has an envelope or not, after being "searched," he is out. If an american gets shot, he is immidiately out.

Last Man Standing - Played with no teams, minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 15 people. The rules are simple, the "last man standing" wins. Once you get hit, you are out.

Extraction - Played with two even teams. One is the "americans" and the other is the "terrorists." The americans must reach an extraction point. The terrorists know which paths the americans are likely to take, but they don't know where the extraction point is. The terrorists hide along the path, waiting for the americans, who don't know where they (terrorists) are. If you get shot, you are out. If the americans reach extraction, they win. If the terrorists stop the americans, they win.

Conversion - Played with two even teams at the start. When you get shot you convert to the other team. Once a team has everybody, the game is over.

Pistols - Can't Live Without Them (The Need of a Sidearm)

The Need of a Sidearm

Every good airsofter needs a sidearm. 98% of the time it's a pistol. The type of pistol you use should reflect on your primary weapon.

Pistols can be powered by spring, electric, or gas.

If your primary is not fully automatic, then the pistol you choose should be fully automatic. The Cyma Glock 18c is a good choice (CM.030).

If your primary is fully automatic, then your pistol shouldn't need to be fully automatic as well. A CO2 pistol like the Crosman Airmag C11 would be a good choice.

In some cases, airsofters use a pistol as their primary as well as their backup. There is nothing wrong with this. Most of the time, their primary pistol will be a semi-automatic gas pistol and their secondary pistol will be either be spring or fully auto.

Whatever your loadout, you need a pistol!

T-Shirt Face Mask

This will give you some protection from head/face shots. This works well with not so good airsoft guns but it won't help much when bb's are coming at you at 380+ fps. Personally, I use this but I keep my nose uncovered for easy breathing.

Airsoft Electric Gun Brands Guide

Low End...

WELL - Makers of the first low cost AEG. Their guns are generally low quality except for their "R Series" (R4, R5, R6, R7, R8). They use plasic bodies, but good plastic. Their "R Series" use metal gearboxes, all other guns made by them use plastic gear boxes.

CYMA - CYMA produces some high quality, cheap AEGs. They also produce "Crap You Must Avoid." Their first guns, the CM027 and CM028, changed the way people think about low-cost AEGs. Their guns use plastic bodies and either PGB's, or MGB's.

Double Eagle - Double Eagle guns are a mixed bunch, some really good and some really bad models. However, they have been improving. Older DE products should probably be avoided. They are some of the leading pioneers in cheap AEGs, and have come out with some interesting designs such as an original AEP and a clone of the v7 gearbox.

D-Boys/Boyi - They produce average quality LPEG's. Some of their guns shoot harder than average.

Both Elephant - Problobly offer the best LPEG's (AUG and XM8). Their guns are generally unique. BE uses plastic bodies and gearboxes.

Middle End...

AIM - They produce some very good quality electric airsoft guns. AIM currently only has one model out, but they are producing more that should be comparable to better brands.

WELL - The "R Series" only.

CYMA - All of thier post-LPEG guns, starting with the CM.028, are excellent MPG airsoft guns

BE - Their Steyr, SL8, and G36K are MGB's.

Jing-Gong/Golden Bow - They produce some of the best MPEG's on the market. JG's airsoft guns feature good externals and great (MGB) internals. Some JG guns even shoot harder than much more expensive competitors!

*Echo 1 doesn't make their own guns. They rebrand JG as well as other brands and add accesories and a warrenty. They mess the the internals of most of their guns, too.*

D-Boys/Boyi - They produce average quality MPEG's. Their armalites are most known and have a good reputation.

BELL - They produce full metal G3's. They use a clamshell design and are not compatible with aftermarket parts. Generally lower quality.

Galaxy - They produce only two electric airsoft guns, the MP5K and the MP7, but but both are very good quality. Galaxy is a new company but already has a very good reputation.

JLS - They produce the lower cost vesion of the SCAR. JLS's products are not very good quality and use MGB's. Their guns' FPS is also very high.

*UTG does not make their own guns. They rebrand products from China and add accesories and a warrenty.*

*Echo 1 does not make their own guns. They rebrand Chinese brands and add accesories, a warrenty, better quality control, and sometimes change the internals a bit (less powerful spring, metal bushings, etc.)*

High End...

ICS - They produce very high quality AEG's that are mostly metal and have good stock FPS. You cant go wrong with an ICS!

SRC - A popular high quality brand. SRC is basically an par with all other AEG brands. High FPS, mostly metal.

VFC - Expensive, but the same quality as TM, or better. Their AEG's are excellent, and are considered some of the best on the market (aside from Systema) by some. VFC makes great AK-47's.

Classic Army - CA's AEG's used to be rock solid and last ages, but their quality is slipping as you read this. More and more problems are being reported with CA AEG's. So, try to avoid them.

Tokyo Marui - One of the best AEG you can get. They offer excellent quality but somewhat low stock FPS, yet their range is quite good. TM AEG's are airsoft gold. If you have the money, get one of them! Also, I recommend buying from airsoftgi and getting the Tokyo Marui Basic Upgrade Package I with it (be sure airsoftgi knows you want the gun you are buying upgraded).

I recommend upgrading any Middle or High End Electric Airsoft Gun. For more information, please look at my post concerning upgrades (Upgrading your AEG).

Airsoft Electric Gun Battery Guide

Battery Guide

Note: Cells used in airsoft battery packs are 1.2 volts per cell.

Ni-MH vs Ni-Cd (Nickel-Metal Hydride vs. Nickel-Cadmium)

Nickel-Metal Hydride cells:
Nickel-Metal Hydride cells tend to have a higher Mah (Milliamp hours-refer to the capacity) than Ni-Cd batteries which make them ideal for any gun you have. They're great for those guns that use mini batteries. I have noticed that my battery packs that have a 25amp discharge rate have a higher ROF than Ni-Cd packs. Another great advantage is their spiking tendency; the spiking tendency is the tendency for more voltage to come out of the pack. Spiking is what causes your fuse to blow, or even worse, your motor. Ni-MH packs do not have this tendancy, while Ni-CD's do. One thing to look out for here, the discharge rate, never get something lower than 20 (personally I never go below 25) amps. A lot of cheap cells out there will run 12 amps, while your average Ni-Cd has 14-16 amps. There is one other disadvantage to Ni-Cd batteries, they cannot be charged as many times, however, when it comes to airsoft guns, this is not something to worry about. Also, with a higher discharge rate, your going to need new fuse, which is a mere .30cents or less at a hardware store, Lowes, home depot, or auto parts store.Also, for some reason, your ROF doesn't start dropping as gradual as it is with a Ni-Cd battery, only the last 15 shots or so will shoot slow before your battery goes dead.Watch out for: Cheap battery packs from http://www.batteryspace.com/ these battery packs advertise A PEAK rate of 25amps, when they do not run more than 12 amps. These are the cheap battery packs. These cheap battery packs WILL run a stock spring, but not at the same ROF of a Ni-Cd, unless you run a higher voltage (i.e. you will have to get a 9.6v battery for a stock gun, but when you upgrade, that battery will be worthless).
Pros: Higher MaH rating. Less likely to spike. No discharging necessary. Higher discharge rate than average Ni-Cd batteries. Can give a higher ROF due to higher discharge rate. The cheap cells are cheaper than a Ni-CD pack. No memory effect.
Cons:
Can be more expensive unless you get the cheap cellsNeed to watch for a discharge rate of 20amps or higher.New .30 cent fuses if you get a good pack.Little warning when your battery is about to die.

*Intellect and Elite are the best Ni-MH Batteries*

Nickel-Cadmium Cells:
These cells are the norm for AEG’s. These are the battery packs that Tokyo Marui standardizes their AEG’s for. Most sites give you one of these packs for the new gun that you order. These cells are tried and true, been used for a very long time.These have a higher discharge rate than crappy Ni-MH cells, and you never have to worry about your gun not being able to be powered with one of these packs. If properly shimmed, unless your running an EXTREMLY stiff spring, an 8.4v pack will run it, though at a lower ROF than if you were to upgrade your battery.Also, with these batteries, your guns ROF will start dropping as your battery goes dead, so you'll know when to get ready for a battery change, or conserve your shots.

Cheap. Easy to find. Never have to worry about the amperage. Warning when it is going dead.

They spike. Less Milliamp hours. Memory effect. Have to be Discharged.

This is a bit tricky, due to the various versions produced of these guns if you get an AE/ICS with metal bushings, and a m100 or equivalent and higher spring, you can run a 9.6v battery, though it will wear out faster if you decide to use a 9.6v battery with a m100.
7.2v battery packs:
Theorized what the FAMAS was designed for, also explains why it has such a high ROF with a 8.4v. These packs are also used to help shim, but more on that later. 6 cells total in one pack.
8.4 volts
These packs are suggest for a stock spring. They give decent RoF and come with all MPEG's. An 8.4v battery pack will pull up to an m130 if shimmed properly.
9.6 volts
A 9.6v battery is suggested for an m110-m130 so you won’t have a large ROF drop off. I do not suggest using a smaller voltage since your battery life will drop drastically, almost by half. 8 cells total in one pack.
10.8v: I would not suggest a 10.8v battery unless you have an m120 and higher, have steel gears (CA come with stock steel gears, TM is zinc alloy, ICS I am unsure of). a 10.8v will most likely shred your piston quickly. Even with an m120 it is still a bit much to be putting into your gun, you have to be VERY careful not to hold back or you will blow your motor. As for a m130, I would suggest you get some torque-up gears and an aftermarket motor if you have a TM (CA is ok, ICS, unsure of). 9 Cells in a pack.
Milliamp ratings and how long they last:
This is a bit hard to explain. A mini battery is 600 mah, that will last you about 700-800 shots. But keep in mind if your using a Ni-Cd that number slowly degrades after time as the memory effect takes it’s course. 1700mah battery will last you all day, but if you have a long day and spray a lot, it might go dead. A 2000mah battery will last you all day and then some. A 3300mah battery will EASILY last you 2 days of solid airsofting.Running a 9.6v with a lower spring:If you decide to run a 9.6v with a lower spring, MAKE SURE you have metal bushings. Also, careful if you don’t have steel aftermarket gears, should you use a TM with a m100, the ROF might be a bit too much, if your not properly shimmed.
Weather effects:
Yes, weather does effect your battery. The cold makes your battery life shorter, and it has also been said (but not experienced by my personally) that it will also cut down on ROF. Be careful when playing in EXTREME cold temperatures, it makes metal more brittle (and plastic), easier to crack (gearboxes beware).
Shimming:
Okay, I know what you think, shimming is a gearbox issue, it has nothing to do with the battery, WRONG! Shimming has to do with the gears, and how they spin. Now then if a 8.4v battery (Ni-Cd or Ni-MH with 20 amp or higher) is NOT turning your gears with a m120, you need to re-shim. Believe it or not, but m100 or lower guns should be able to run off of a 7.2v Ni-Cd battery.

The Difference Between Spring, Electric, and Gas

Spring: An airsoft gun that has to be cocked in some way before every shot. These are all single shot and the FPS can range between 150 (really cruddy spring pistol) and up to or exceeding 500 (high-end sniper rifles).
Recommended for: Beginner ($5-$60) (Pistols, cheap Rifles and Shotguns), Intermediate ($60-$170) (high-end Rifles and Shotguns, Sniper Rifles), or Expert ($170 and up) (high-end Sniper Rifles).

Electric: An airsoft gun powered by a rechargable battery or AAA batteries. Most electric powered airsoft guns have a full auto, semi auto, and safe selector switch (electric pistols are only semi auto).

Mini Electric (Mini, M.E.) and Electric Pistols (AEP): Powered by AAA batteries. FPS is around 150.
Recommended for: Beginners only* ($15-$25)

Airsoft is a sport/hobby that is based on replica firearms that fire 6mm plastic BBs. These replicas are based on three basic methods of operation; spring powered, gas powered, and electric powered.
In airsoft, players compete with one another on controlled fields working with their teams to reach a common goal. Players must be aware of all rules and precautions before they are admitted to the field, and eye protection is mandatory.

Airsoft is not a game for irresponsible kids to enjoy in their backyards and/or on public land such as parks. Too often parents allow their children to buy cheap see through “airsoft guns” from Wal*Mart without giving it a second thought, it’s these kids that cause problems with authorities and end up on the news driving airsoft's reputation into the dirt.
Parents should exercise responsible parenting by judging their children’s maturity before allowing them to buy an airsoft replica.

Now I’ll list a few good reasons to start into airsoft.

1. It enforces honesty. Airsoft is based on an honor system, players “call their hits” when they are eliminated, without honesty the game is worthless.

2. Airsoft teaches responsibility. Airsoft requires players to take proper care of their equipment and practice good gun safety.

3. It builds self-confidence. Players learn self confidence through accomplishments on and off the field.

4. It teaches leadership. Players are expected to take command and lead their team/squad to victory.

5. Airsoft improves situational awareness. If you don’t know what’s going on around you, you can’t be effective in the field.

6. It teaches teamwork. Players work together and take action as a team to work more efficiently.

7. It builds friendships. Airsoft is very social; players meet new friends and create lasting relationships with other players.

8. Airsoft helps communicative skills. Players are constantly in touch with their team to report current status and locations, helping improve communication skills.

9. Airsoft heightens safety awareness. Players become familiar with gun safety and responsible use of equipment.

10. It's a physical activity. Airsoft requires good physical awareness and is much healthier than sitting on a couch playing videogames or watching TV.

11. Airsoft exercises your senses. Players learn to use their peripheral vision as well as hearing more efficiently.

16. Airsoft teaches organization. If you can’t find your goggles or your weapon, you won’t be allowed on the field.

17. There are those out there who believe airsoft is about violence because of the equipment and tools used in the sport, most notably the replica weaponry. But it is no more violent than any other sport. I can claim that baseball is violent because it prepares you to hit people with a stick. Football is violent because it teaches you how to use your weight to overcome the opposition through force. Soccer is violent because it gives you the proper techniques to kick someone. You can find one thing violent about any sport out there, even chess, which is based on medieval warfare.

In reality, airsoft is a way to let out you child’s built up tension, have some fun, and get to know other people who share the same interests that they do. You can apply the same reasons your child should play other sports to airsoft, and they work together perfectly, because airsoft is a sport.

In conclusion, when proper safety precautions are implemented, airsoft can be a fun and valuable hobby, enjoyable for the entire family.

The Airsoft Safety List

The following are the top ten safety precautions that must be taken with airsoft guns or while playing with airsoft guns.

1. Wear goggles that are ASNI Z87.1 rated. That means that they will not weaken or even break during an airsoft war. Do not just wear sunglasses or glasses not meant for airsoft.

2. Make sure your face is covered. I have known and heard of too many chipped teeth. A paintball mask is recommended. It will cover all parts of your face and you eyes (with ASNI Z87.1 rated goggles).

3. Do not play with anybody that is using an airsoft gun that can propel a BB at 400 feet per second (FPS) without a minimum engagement distance. 400 FPS can and will break skin at close range. Do not risk your blood.

4. Keep all airsoft guns on "safe" unless a game is in progress. If your airsoft gun is on "safe" then it won't be able to fire. That means no stray bb's will go flying around.

5. Store your airsoft gun(s) properly. Keep magazines out of you airsoft gun(s) and fire 2 shots in semi auto without a magazine to ensure that the bb chamber is clear. Store your airsoft guns on safety and in cases, as well. This way, when traveling in public, people won't call the police when they see somebody walking their streets with a "weapon." Cases also protect airsoft guns from damage.

6. Make sure that there is a blazing orange tip that is clearly visable on all airsoft guns that you and people you are playing with own. The orange tip is a universal indicator of a toy gun, or, as we in airsoft like to call it, replica firearm.

7. Only play in proper areas. Do not trespass, do not play where you are visable to others, try to play in designated fields, and know your surroundings. If you feel that you are playing in public view, inform your local authorities that you are having an airsoft war.

8. Stay hydrated. Bring bottles of water or use a hydration pack. Dehydration is horrible, trust me, you want to stay hydrated.

9. Check your local laws. You don't want to get arrested for playing airsoft!

10. Use common sense! Do not shoot anybody who is not ready to be shot (unless you are in-game), do not shoot or point at anybody not wearing eye protection, do not look down the barrell of an airsoft gun withour eye protection, etc.

Airsoft is not a dangerous hobby if safety precautions are taken. Please be safe!
